Boulder or rock faced slopes are generally stable under static conditions. However, if the slope becomes saturated or there is a large sesimic event they can pose a significant hazard to other property or life. Boulder or rock faced slopes shall be designed by a Category 1 Geo-Professional in accordance with current engineering practice such as the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Rockery Design and Construction Guidelines. The designer shall provide a construction specification and issue a PS-4 with at least CM3 monitoring requirement.
