IT-5.2 Testing

Testing of stormwater pipelines shall include:

  1. IT-5.2.1 Testing of Butt Welds in Polyethylene Pipes
  2. IT-5.2.2 Testing of Electrofusion Welds in Polyethylene Pipes​

IT-5.2.1 Testing of Butt Welds in Polyethylene Pipes

Testing shall be carried out in accordance with ISO 13953:2001. The number of specimens per weld tested shall be in accordance with this standard.

In addition to the results provided in terms of the standard, a graph of load vs tensile extension shall be provided to assist with the interpretation of ductile and brittle failure. The results shall be submitted to Council. Test pieces shall be retained by the Contractor until the issue of the Defects Liability Certificate and shall be made available to the Engineer on request.

Before welding of the main pipe string commences, two proof welds shall be carried out and tested. If at any time during the welding of the pipe string either the welder or the welding machine is changed two further proof welds shall be carried out and tested. On the main pipe string 5% of welds carried out shall be tested, with a minimum of one weld.

If a weld has failed the Contractor shall expose the immediately preceding weld which shall be tested as described above.

IT-5.2.2 Testing of Electrofusion Welds in Polyethylene Pipes

Testing of electrofusion welds shall be carried out in accordance with ISO 13954:1997. The minimum number of specimens per weld shall be three.
